The game is fully playable without an account, and we never sell or share your data with anyone. If you choose to create an account, we store your email address and your game progress so it survives a lost or replaced phone. You can delete all of it from inside the app at any time.
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Game progress levels completed, stars, best scorelines |
Always, on your device. Copied to our servers once you are signed in. | So the game remembers where you are, and so a career is not lost with a phone. |
| An anonymous account identifier | Created automatically on first launch. | So progress can be saved before you have decided whether to sign up. It is a random string and is not linked to you. |
| Email address | Only if you create an account. | To sign you in and to let you reset your password. It is never used for marketing. |
| What you tell us about yourself your county (or the country you are in), whether you prefer football or hurling, your age range and your gender |
Only if you answer the questions when you first open the app. Every one of them can be skipped, and skipping changes nothing about how the game plays. | Your county decides the colours you play in. The rest tells us who is actually playing the game so we know who to build it for. None of it is used to identify you. |
| Anonymous gameplay statistics which level was played, how a shot ended, range in metres |
Unless you turn them off. | To see which levels are too hard or too easy and tune them. You can switch this off in the app under Account → Privacy. |
We use Google Firebase to provide sign-in, to store saved progress and to collect the anonymous gameplay statistics described above. Google processes this data on our behalf as a service provider, under Firebase's privacy and security terms. Data may be stored on servers inside the European Union.
Nobody else receives your data. We do not sell it, rent it, trade it or share it with advertisers, data brokers or analytics companies beyond the Firebase service described here.
Your account and saved progress are kept until you delete them. Anonymous gameplay statistics are retained by Firebase for up to 14 months and are not linked to your email address.
In the app, open Account from the button at the top of the main screen and choose Delete my account. This permanently removes your account, your email address, the answers you gave about yourself and your saved progress from our servers, and clears the copies held on your device. It cannot be undone and it does not require you to contact us.
If you would rather not use the app, email us at the address below and we will do it for you.
Under the GDPR and equivalent laws you may ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. The in-app deletion above satisfies the right to erasure immediately; for anything else, write to the address below. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority -- in Ireland, the Data Protection Commission.
Where we rely on a legal basis, it is your consent for the optional gameplay statistics, which you may withdraw at any time in the app, and our legitimate interest in providing the account features you asked for.
The game is suitable for all ages. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Because the app is distributed through the App Store and TestFlight, Apple may collect information about downloads, crashes and usage independently of us, under Apple's Privacy Policy. Where it reaches us it is aggregated and anonymous.
If what we collect changes, this page is updated before the version that changes it is released, and the date at the top changes with it.
Over The Bar is an independent game. It is not endorsed by, affiliated with or connected to the Gaelic Athletic Association or any county board, club or competition. No official crests, badges or team kits are used.
