Wine Library, VaynerMedia

Gary Vaynerchuk

Grew his family's wine shop from roughly three million to sixty, then did it again in media.

The volume of output is the lesson, and it is the one I find hardest to copy.

  1. Take over the boring family business first.

Wine Library was an existing shop. He did not need a new idea, he needed a better channel into an old one.

  2. Daily beats polished.

Wine Library TV was a daily video show for years, made cheaply. Cadence built the audience, production value did not.

  3. Go early on the channel nobody respects.

He was on email, then YouTube, then Twitter, then TikTok, each time before it was obviously worth it. Being early is most of the return.

  4. Sell into the audience you built.

VaynerMedia exists because he had already proved the thesis on his own shop. The consultancy came after the evidence.

  5. Patience about the outcome, impatience about the work.

He talks in decades about results and in hours about effort. Those two together are unusual and they are the point.

  6. Volume is a strategy, not a lack of one.

Publishing constantly means more shots and faster feedback. It only looks undisciplined if you assume every piece has to be good.

  7. Ignore the score early on.

He was making videos for tiny audiences for a long time. The willingness to look pointless in public is the barrier most people never clear.
